Mice have bodies about 3 to 4 inches long. The tail is usually the same length as the body.
They are various shades of greyish-brown slightly lighter underneath.
They are mainly nocturnal. Breeding is all year with litters of between 4 to 8 young and up to 10 litters a year. They live under floorboards, in corners of sheds, garages and can go through a space the same width as a pencil. Mice will eat leftover or discarded food, and chew open food containers using the shredded paper to build nests.

Mice are a public health menace. They urinate everywhere they go and leave droppings all over their range. Their droppings can be contaminated with Salmonella and their urine with WEILS Disease. See Health Protection Agency for more information. They have been known to chew insulation causing electrical short circuits with a subsequent risk of fire.
