Mink is an introduced species. The initial stock were escapees from fur farms. Since then their numbers have increased until most lowland parts of the UK have a Mink population.
They are usually a shiny dark brown colour although there are colour variations around. They are about 15" to 18" long with a tail about half the body length.

They produce one litter, usually about 5 young, in late Spring.

Mink are indiscriminate predators on nesting birds, fish, water voles and waterfowl such as Moorhens. They can totally destroy a trout fishery.

Controlled using traps or shooting.
