Feral Pigeon |
All Feral Pigeons seen around towns and gardens are descended from the native Rock Doves that frequented cliffs, hence their attraction for town buildings.
They are various colours.
Feral pigeons can breed all year round. Normally 2 eggs are laid with 2-4 broods each year.

The most common reasons to consider their removal is when they make their nest in an attic or when their roosting areas start building up droppings Apart from causing noise their droppings can contain dangerous bacteria. It is therefore essential that any area where they have been is disinfected thoroughly. They are a public health hazard, carrying all kinds of disease. In fact they can carry more of these than rats! Dead pigeons should be handled carefully and only touched by gloved hands which must be washed thoroughly afterwards.
